My work is usually created around a theme that I feel is capable of turning common beliefs and conformities upside down. My current medium is photography. Depending on the subject, I use a vintage analogue camera, a digital one or a simple smartphone lens. Other applications and mixed media materials help me to convey a sense of 'otherworldliness' or to highlight an unusual side of everyday things and situations.
I believe it's extremely important to keep your eyes and your mind wide open, to see the world more complicated than it seems at first glance. By creating these new layers in my pictures, I'm trying to lift the veil of reality and have a good laugh at its underlining.

Bio
Tatiana Bulanova (b. 1987, Saratov, USSR) is a Berlin-based photographer and mixed media artist. Holding a Master’s degree in Russian Literature, she spent her early career working as an editor on literary and publishing projects—an academic background that continues to inform the text-based and narrative layers of her visual practice.
Since relocating to Germany in 2016, Bulanova has focused her artistic work on the socio-psychological dynamics of urban life. Combining analog photography, frottage, collage, and text, her practice explores themes of immigration, spatial adaptation, privacy, and identity reconstruction within unfamiliar landscapes. Her work frequently employs the aesthetics of the absurd to question societal conformities and capture the quiet friction between the individual and the metropolis.
Her projects have been presented internationally in exhibitions across Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, including venues such as Kunstquartier Bethanien in Berlin, Millepiani in Rome, and the Griffin Museum of Photography. She has also completed the IN://BETWEEN Art Residency at Kulturschöpfer, Berlin.
